Beneath the Kevlar and carbon panels sits a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 developed from Ferrari's 288 GTO racing programme, mounted in a car with no anti-lock brakes, no power steering and no driver aids of any kind. Demand ran so far ahead of the 400 cars Ferrari planned that it kept building them until 1992.
