What You Need to Know Before Driving the A31 This Weekend
While the A31 is open in both directions, emergency services and maintenance crews are still managing the area with temporary safety measures in place:
Eastbound Traffic: Open under a temporary 40 mph speed limit while permanent parapet repairs are finalized.
Westbound Traffic: Open under a temporary 50 mph speed limit, with Lane 1 remaining closed near the emergency compound to give fire service vehicles safe access.
Lay-bys: Remain closed along the forest stretch for now.
Even with the slight speed restrictions, taking the direct A31 is significantly faster than the previous diversion routes through Lyndhurst and the A35. Just leave a few extra minutes for your journey, respect the temporary speed limits, and keep an eye out for local livestock near the new boundary fencing.
